Moving beyond basic camera setting to take good pictures relies on an understanding of the concept of exposure and the role of aperture and shutter speed in creating the perfect exposure.

Some of these terms may not be familiar to you yet, however the following resources provide a simple description of these concepts.

How to take a great picture (2:57) - this is a short film that explains the relationship between aperture and shutter speed and how they combine to create the right exposure.

Photosimulator - This application allows you to control shutter speed, aperture and ISO to see the effect each of these has on the exposure of a given photo.  The site also provides a simple explanation of these terms and how they relate to each other and exposure.
